But the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "I will give this land to your offspring." So he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.

for I will give you and your offspring forever all the land that you see.

And to you and your offspring after you I will give the land where you are residing-- all the land of Canaan-- as an eternal possession, and I will be their God."

The LORD was standing there beside him, saying, "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land that you are now sleeping on.

Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

God also said to him: I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will come from you, and kings will descend from you.

The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you. And I will give the land to your descendants after you.

Therefore, there will be no one in the assembly of the LORD to divide the land by casting lots.

"The land is to be divided among them as an inheritance based on the number of names.

The land must be divided by lot; they will receive an inheritance according to the names of their ancestral tribes.

When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance and divided the human race, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the people of Israel.
