These now are the people of the province who came from those captive exiles King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had deported to Babylon. Each of them returned to his hometown Jerusalem and Judah.

They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. The number of the Israelite men [included]:

The sons of Jeconiah the captive: his sons Shealtiel,

Pedaiah's sons: Zerubbabel and Shimei. Zerubbabel's sons: Meshullam and Hananiah, with their sister Shelomith;

In the second month of the second year after they arrived at God's house in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers, including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the captivity, began [to build]. They appointed the Levites who were 20 years old or more to supervise the work on the LORD's house.

they approached Zerubbabel and the leaders of the families and said to them, "Let us build with you, for we also worship your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the time King Esar-haddon of Assyria brought us here."

Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak began to rebuild God's house in Jerusalem. The prophets of God were with them, helping them.

In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest:

Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak, and the entire remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. So the people feared the LORD.

The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the spirit of the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. They began work on the house of Yahweh of Hosts, their God,

"Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak, and to the remnant of the people:

"Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.

On that day"-- the declaration of the LORD of Hosts-- "I will take you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, My servant"-- the LORD's declaration-- "and make you like My signet ring, for I have chosen you." [This is] the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.

So he answered me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by strength or by might, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of Hosts.

Then the word of the LORD came to me:

For who scorns the day of small things? These seven eyes of the LORD, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand."

Then after the exile to Babylon Jechoniah fathered Salathiel, Salathiel fathered Zerubbabel,

Zerubbabel fathered Abiud, Abiud fathered Eliakim, Eliakim fathered Azor,

Jeshua fathered Joiakim, Joiakim fathered Eliashib, Eliashib fathered Joiada,

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, with Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.

Now Joshua was dressed with filthy clothes as he stood before the Angel.

Then I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." So a clean turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him in garments while the Angel of the LORD was standing nearby.

"This is what the LORD of Hosts says: If you walk in My ways and keep My instructions, you will both rule My house and take care of My courts; I will also grant you access among these who are standing here.

Notice the stone I have set before Joshua; on [that] one stone are seven eyes. I will engrave an inscription on it"-- the declaration of the LORD of Hosts-- "and I will take away the guilt of this land in a single day.

Take silver and gold, make crowns and place them on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

In the days of Joiakim, the leaders of the priestly families were: Meraiah of Seraiah, Hananiah of Jeremiah,

Jonathan of Malluchi, Joseph of Shebaniah,

Zechariah of Iddo, Meshullam of Ginnethon,

Shammua of Bilgah, Jehonathan of Shemaiah,

Kallai of Sallai, Eber of Amok,

Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,

Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch,

Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,

Maaziah, Bilgai, and Shemaiah. These were the priests.
