My brothers are as treacherous as a wadi, as seasonal streams that overflow

But you coat [the truth] with lies; you are all worthless doctors.

Men are only a vapor; exalted men, an illusion. On a balance scale, they go up; together they [weigh] less than a vapor.

Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. What is he really worth?

This is what the LORD says: Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes [human] flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD.

He will be like a juniper in the Arabah; he cannot see when good comes but dwells in the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land where no one lives.

Now when Job's three friends-- Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite-- heard about all this adversity that had happened to him, each of them came from his home. They met together to go and offer sympathy and comfort to him.

Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.

My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance.

But all this has happened so that the prophetic Scriptures would be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted Him and ran away.

At my first defense, no one came to my assistance, but everyone deserted me. May it not be counted against them.

The kings of the earth who have committed sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning.

They stand far off in fear of her torment, saying: Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the mighty city! For in a single hour your judgment has come.

because in a single hour such fabulous wealth was destroyed! And every shipmaster, seafarer, the sailors, and all who do business by sea, stood far off

as they watched the smoke from her burning and kept crying out: "Who is like the great city?"
