I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols; I will reject you.

you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images and cast images, and demolish all their high places.

Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are driving out worship their gods-- on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every flourishing tree.

Don't worship the LORD your God this way.

When I brought them into the land that I swore to give them and they saw any high hill or leafy tree, they offered their sacrifices and presented their offensive offerings there. They also sent up their pleasing aromas and poured out their drink offerings there.

So I asked them: What is this high place you are going to? And it is called High Place to this day.

How long, LORD? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy keep burning like fire?

You are to never bow down to another god because the LORD, being jealous by nature, is a jealous God.

They provoked His jealousy with foreign gods; they enraged Him with detestable practices.

They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known, new gods that had just arrived, which your fathers did not fear.

They have provoked My jealousy with [their] so-called gods; they have enraged Me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with an inferior people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.

and abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods from the surrounding peoples and bowed down to them. They infuriated the LORD,

The Lord's anger burned against Israel, and He declared, "Because this nation has violated My covenant that I made with their fathers and disobeyed Me,

He stretched out what appeared to be a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the inner gate that faces north, where the offensive statue that provokes jealousy was located.

The LORD said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." I looked to the north, and there was this offensive statue north of the altar gate, at the entrance.

Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

All who serve carved images, those who boast in idols, will be put to shame. All the gods must worship Him.

Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth.

You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers' sin, to the third and fourth [generations] of those who hate Me,

not to act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of any figure: a male or female form,

any creature that crawls on the ground, or any fish in the waters under the earth.

But the LORD selected you and brought you out of Egypt's iron furnace to be a people for His inheritance, as you are today.

I won't be crossing the Jordan because I am going to die in this land. But you are about to cross over and take possession of this good land.

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

'Cursed is the person who makes a carved idol or cast image, which is detestable to the LORD, the work of a craftsman, and sets [it] up in secret.' And all the people will reply, ' Amen!'

The Israelites did what was evil in the LORD's sight. They worshiped the Baals

but they did not listen to their judges. Instead, they prostituted themselves with other gods, bowing down to them. They quickly turned from the way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD's commands. They did not do as their fathers did.

Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines. They abandoned the LORD and did not worship Him.

At that time, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the detestable idol of Moab, and for Milcom, the detestable idol of the Ammonites on the hill across from Jerusalem.

He had commanded him about this, so that he would not follow other gods, but Solomon did not do what the LORD had commanded.

Jeroboam also built shrines on the high places and set up priests from every class of people who were not Levites.

Listen-- the cry of my dear people from a far away land: Is the LORD no longer in Zion, her King not in her midst? Why have they provoked Me to anger with their graven images, with their worthless foreign idols?

Now they continue to sin and make themselves a cast image, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say about them, "Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves."
