On that day explain to your son, 'This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.'

Let it serve as a sign for you on your hand and as a reminder on your forehead, so that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth; for the LORD brought you out of Egypt with a strong hand.

"In the future, when your son asks you, 'What does this mean?' say to him, 'By the strength of [His] hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.

"Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don't forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don't slip from your mind as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.

"When your son asks you in the future, 'What is the meaning of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances, which the LORD our God has commanded you?'

Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh and all his household,

[For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah.] God, we have heard with our ears-- our forefathers have told us-- the work You accomplished in their days, in days long ago:

Even when I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me. Then I will proclaim Your power to [another] generation, Your strength to all who are to come.

He established a testimony in Jacob and set up a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children

so that a future generation-- children yet to be born-- might know. They were to rise and tell their children

Tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children the next generation.

And fathers, don't stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

This is what the LORD says: Here is how you will know that I am the LORD. Watch. I will strike the water in the Nile with the staff in my hand, and it will turn to blood.

Then people will say, "Yes, there is a reward for the righteous! There is a God who judges on earth!"

When they made every firstborn pass through [the fire], I defiled them through their gifts in order to devastate them so they would know that I am the LORD.

When I brought them into the land that I swore to give them and they saw any high hill or leafy tree, they offered their sacrifices and presented their offensive offerings there. They also sent up their pleasing aromas and poured out their drink offerings there.
