praised
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_27 5:23
Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them, you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in His hand and who controls the whole course of your life.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_27 4:37
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and glorify the King of heaven, because all His works are true and His ways are just. And He is able to humble those who walk in pride.

Now the Philistine leaders gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon. They rejoiced and said: Our god has handed over our enemy Samson to us.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_7 16:24
When the people saw him, they praised their god and said: Our god has handed over to us our enemy who destroyed our land and who multiplied our dead.

I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, or my praise to idols.

8
She does not recognize that it is I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil. I lavished silver and gold on her, which they used for Baal.
9
Therefore, I will take back My grain in its time and My new wine in its season; I will take away My wool and linen, which were to cover her nakedness.
10
Now I will expose her shame in the sight of her lovers, and no one will rescue her from My hands.
11
I will put an end to all her celebrations: her feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths-- all her festivals.
12
I will devastate her vines and fig trees. She thinks that these are her wages that her lovers have given her. I will turn them into a thicket, and the wild animals will eat them.
13
And I will punish her for the days of the Baals when she burned incense to them, put on her rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but forgot Me. [This is] the LORD's declaration.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_66 9:20
The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands to stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which are not able to see, hear, or walk.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_66 9:21
And they did not repent of their murders, their sorceries, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.
of gold
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_27 3:1-7
1
King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue, 90 feet high and nine feet wide. He set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.
2
King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces to attend the dedication of the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
3
So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces assembled for the dedication of the statue the king had set up. Then they stood before the statue Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4
A herald loudly proclaimed, "People of every nation and language, you are commanded:
5
When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
6
But whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire."
7
Therefore, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, and every kind of music, people of every nation and language fell down and worshiped the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

8
Some Chaldeans took this occasion to come forward and maliciously accusethe Jews.
9
They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "May the king live forever.
10
You as king have issued a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music must fall down and worship the gold statue.
11
Whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire.
12
There are some Jews you have appointed to manage the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men have ignored you, the king; they do not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up."
13
Then in a furious rage Nebuchadnezzar gave orders to bring in Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king.
14
Nebuchadnezzar asked them, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don't serve my gods or worship the gold statue I have set up?
15
Now if you're ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don't worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire-- and who is the god who can rescue you from my power?"
16
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, "Nebuchadnezzar, we don't need to give you an answer to this question.
17
If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king.
18
But even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up."

Their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.
5
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.
6
They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.
7
They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot make a sound with their throats.
8
Those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them.

15
The idols of the nations are of silver and gold, made by human hands.
16
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.
17
They have ears, but cannot hear; indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.
18
Those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them.

To an idol?-- [something that] a smelter casts, and a metalworker plates with gold and makes silver welds [for it]?
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_23 40:20
To one who shapes a pedestal, choosing wood that does not rot? He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not fall over.

They will be turned back [and] utterly ashamed-- those who trust in idols and say to metal-plated images: You are our gods!

Those who pour out their bags of gold and weigh out silver on a scales-- they hire a goldsmith and he makes it into a god. Then they kneel and bow down to it.

They lift it to their shoulder and bear it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands; it does not budge from its place. They cry out to it but it doesn't answer; it saves no one from his trouble.

He decorates it with silver and gold. It is fastened with hammer and nails, so it won't totter.
5
Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them for they can do no harm-- and they cannot do any good.
6
LORD, there is no one like You. You are great; Your name is great in power.
7
Who should not fear You, King of the nations? It is what You deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like You.
8
They are both senseless and foolish, instructed by worthless idols [made of] wood!
9
Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz from the hands of a goldsmith, the work of a craftsman. Their clothing is blue and purple, all the work of skilled artisans.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Being God's offspring, then, we shouldn't think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.

24
For a person named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines of Artemis, provided a great deal of business for the craftsmen.
25
When he had assembled them, as well as the workers engaged in this type of business, he said: "Men, you know that our prosperity is derived from this business.
26
You both see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost the whole province of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods!
27
So not only do we run a risk that our business may be discredited, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be despised and her magnificence come to the verge of ruin-- the very one whom the whole province of Asia and the world adore."
28
When they had heard this, they were filled with rage and began to cry out, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"
