and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn't have taken part with them in shedding the prophets' blood.'
31
You therefore testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32
Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' sins!
33
"Snakes! Brood of vipers! How can you escape being condemned to hell?
34
This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and hound from town to town.
35
So all the righteous blood shed on the earth will be charged to you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.
36
I assure you: All these things will come on this generation!

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem! The city who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, yet you were not willing!

"Do not defile the land where you are, for bloodshed defiles the land, and there can be no atonement for the land because of the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of the person who shed it.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_5 19:10
In this way, innocent blood will not be shed, and you will not become guilty of bloodshed in the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_5 19:13
You must not look on him with pity but purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, and you will prosper.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_6 2:19
If anyone goes out the doors of your house, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be innocent. But if anyone with you in the house should be harmed, his blood will be on our heads.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_10 1:16
For David had said to the Amalekite, "Your blood is on your own head because your own mouth testified against you by saying, 'I killed the LORD's anointed.'"
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_10 3:28
David heard [about it] later and said: "I and my kingdom are forever innocent before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.

May it hang over Joab's head and his father's whole house, and may the house of Joab never be without someone who has an infection or leprosy or a man who can only work a spindle or someone who falls by the sword or starves."
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_11 2:32
The LORD will bring back his own blood on his own head because he struck down two men more righteous and better than he, without my father David's knowledge. With his sword, Joab murdered Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel's army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah's army.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_12 24:3
This happened to Israel only at the LORD's command to remove them from His sight. It was because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all he had done,

and also because of all the innocent blood he had shed. He had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD would not forgive.

Let no one show him kindness, and let no one be gracious to his fatherless children.

Let the line of his descendants be cut off; let their name be blotted out in the next generation.
14
Let his forefathers' guilt be remembered before the LORD, and do not let his mother's sin be blotted out.
15
Let their sins always remain before the LORD, and let Him cut off [all] memory of them from the earth.
16
For he did not think to show kindness, but pursued the wretched poor and the brokenhearted in order to put them to death.
17
He loved cursing-- let it fall on him; he took no delight in blessing-- let it be far from him.
18
He wore cursing like his coat-- let it enter his body like water and go into his bones like oil.
19
Let it be like a robe he wraps around himself, like a belt he always wears.

"Now, son of man, will you pass judgment? Will you pass judgment against the city of blood? Then explain all her abominations to her.
3
You are to say: This is what the Lord God says: A city that sheds blood within her [walls] so that her time of judgment has come and who makes idols for herself so that she is defiled!
4
You are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are defiled from the idols you have made. You have brought your [judgment] days near and have come to your years [of punishment]. Therefore, I have made you a disgrace to the nations and a mockery to all the lands.

For the blood she shed is in her midst. She put it out on the bare rock; she didn't pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
8
In order to stir up wrath and take vengeance, I have put her blood on the bare rock, so that it would not be covered.
9
Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! I Myself will make the pile of kindling large.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They even killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.
ZEFANIABIBLE_BIBLE_BOOK_NAME_52 2:15
They killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and persecuted us; they displease God, and are hostile to everyone,

hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are always adding to the number of their sins, and wrath has overtaken them completely.

If anyone disregards Moses' law, he dies without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29
How much worse punishment, do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

For we know the One who has said, Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay, and again, The Lord will judge His people.

"Now suppose he has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, and though he sees them, he does not do likewise.
15
He does not eat at the mountain [shrines] or raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife.
16
He doesn't oppress anyone, hold collateral, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
17
He keeps his hand from [harming] the poor, not taking interest or profit [on a loan]. He practices My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a person will not die for his father's iniquity. He will certainly live.
18
"As for his father, he will die for his own iniquity because he practiced fraud, robbed [his] brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
19
But you may ask: Why doesn't the son suffer punishment for the father's iniquity? Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statues, he will certainly live.
20
The person who sins is the one who will die. A son won't suffer punishment for the father's iniquity, and a father won't suffer punishment for the son's iniquity. The righteousness of the righteous person will be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked person will be on him.
21
"Now if the wicked person turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will certainly live; he will not die.
22
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. He will live because of the righteousness he has practiced.
23
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?" [This is] the declaration of the Lord God. "Instead, don't I [take pleasure] when he turns from his ways and lives?
24
But when a righteous person turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, committing the same abominations that the wicked do, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. He will die because of the treachery he has engaged in and the sin he has committed.
25
"But you say: The Lord's way isn't fair. Now listen, house of Israel: Is it My way that is unfair? Instead, isn't it your ways that are unfair?
26
When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has practiced.
27
But if a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.
28
He will certainly live because he thought it over and turned from all the transgressions he had committed; he will not die.
29
But the house of Israel says: The Lord's way isn't fair. Is it My ways that are unfair, house of Israel? Instead, isn't it your ways that are unfair?
30
"Therefore, house of Israel, I will judge each one of you according to his ways." [This is] the declaration of the Lord God. "Repent and turn from all your transgressions, so they will not be a stumbling block that causes your punishment.
31
Throw off all the transgressions you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, house of Israel?
32
For I take no pleasure in anyone's death." [This is] the declaration of the Lord God. "So repent and live!
