"If a man or woman among you in one of your towns that the LORD your God will give you is discovered doing evil in the sight of the LORD your God and violating His covenant
and has gone to worship other gods by bowing down to the sun, moon, or all the stars in the sky-- which I have forbidden--
The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly at his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children,
Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for my suffering! I put my slave in your arms, and ever since she saw that she was pregnant, she has looked down on me. May the LORD judge between me and you."
Why, my son, would you be infatuated with a forbidden woman or embrace the breast of a stranger?
A man with many friends may be harmed, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.
Do not rely on a friend; don't trust in a close companion. Seal your mouth from the woman who lies in your arms.
For a son considers his father a fool, a daughter opposes her mother, and a daughter-in-law is against her mother-in-law; a person's enemies are the people in his own home.
But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.
But He replied to the one who told Him, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"
And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!
For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, that person is My brother and sister and mother."
From now on, then, we do not know anyone in a purely human way. Even if we have known Christ in a purely human way, yet now we no longer know Him like that.
When David had finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan committed himself to David, and loved him as much as he loved himself.
Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as much as himself.
Jonathan once again swore to David in his love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.
I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother. You were such a friend to me. Your love for me was more wonderful than the love of a woman [for me].
so that my heart was secretly enticed and I threw them a kiss,
[This issue arose] because of false brothers smuggled in, who came in secretly to spy on our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, in order to enslave us.
Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.
I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with persuasive arguments.
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.
I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
The anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you don't need anyone to teach you. Instead, His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie; just as it has taught you, remain in Him.
So the great dragon was thrown out-- the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world. He was thrown to earth, and his angels with him.
He deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs that he is permitted to perform on behalf of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image of the beast who had the sword wound yet lived.
He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it so that he would no longer deceive the nations until the 1,000 years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.
They provoked His jealousy with foreign gods; they enraged Him with detestable practices.
They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known, new gods that had just arrived, which your fathers did not fear.
You ignored the Rock who gave you birth; you forgot the God who brought you forth.
for they abandoned Him and worshiped Baal and the Ashtoreths.
Israel chose new gods, then war was in the gates. Not a shield or spear was seen among 40,000 in Israel.
Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines. They abandoned the LORD and did not worship Him.
Solomon followed Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom, the detestable idol of the Ammonites.
Solomon did what was evil in the LORD's sight, and unlike his father David, he did not completely follow the LORD.
At that time, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the detestable idol of Moab, and for Milcom, the detestable idol of the Ammonites on the hill across from Jerusalem.
The men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima,
the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of the Sepharvaim.
