Tell them: As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you exactly as I heard you say.
Your corpses will fall in this wilderness-- all of you who were registered [in the census], the entire number of you 20 years old or more-- because you have complained about Me.
I swear that none of you will enter the land I promised to settle you in, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
I will bring your children whom you said would become plunder into the land you rejected, and they will enjoy it.
But as for you, your corpses will fall in this wilderness.
Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for 40 years and bear the penalty for your acts of unfaithfulness until all your corpses lie [scattered] in the wilderness.
You will bear the consequences of your sins 40 years based on the number of the 40 days that you scouted the land, a year for each day. You will know My displeasure.
I, the LORD, have spoken. I swear that I will do this to the entire evil community that has conspired against Me. They will come to an end in the wilderness, and there they will die."

Hebrews 3:8-19
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the desert,
where your fathers tested Me, tried [ Me], and saw My works
for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with this generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways."
So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest."
Watch out, brothers, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God.
But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.
For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.
As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?
And with whom was He "provoked for 40 years"? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert?
And to whom did He "swear that they would not enter His rest," if not those who disobeyed?
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
Jude 1:5
Now I want to remind you, though you know all these things: the Lord, having first of all saved a people out of Egypt, later destroyed those who did not believe;
