But Pharaoh responded, "Who is the LORD that I should obey Him by letting Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and what's more, I will not let Israel go."

The enemy said: "I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil. My desire will be gratified at their expense. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them."

Who is it you mocked and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised [your] voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!

I dug [wells], and I drank foreign waters. I dried up all the streams of Egypt with the soles of my feet.

Yet they say to God: "Leave us alone! We don't want to know Your ways.

Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him, and what will we gain by pleading with Him?"

They were the ones who said to God, "Leave us alone!" and "What can the Almighty do to us?"

For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.

They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts.

They say, "Through our tongues we have power; our lips are our own-- who can be our master?"

They have become hardened; their mouths speak arrogantly.

[For the choir director. A Davidic Maskil. When Doeg the Edomite went and reported to Saul, telling him, "David went to Ahimelech's house."] Why brag about evil, you hero! God's faithful love is constant.

Like a sharpened razor, your tongue devises destruction, working treachery.

They mock, and they speak maliciously; they arrogantly threaten oppression.

They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues strut across the earth.

There is one who speaks rashly, like a piercing sword; but the tongue of the wise [brings] healing.

The tongue of the wise makes knowledge attractive, but the mouth of fools blurts out foolishness.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

They bent their tongues [like] their bows; lies and not faithfulness prevail in the land, for they proceed from one evil to another, and they do not take Me into account. [This is] the LORD's declaration.

Each one betrays his friend; no one tells the truth. They have taught their tongues to speak lies; they wear themselves out doing wrong.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I am about to refine them and test them, for what else can I do because of My dear people?

Then certain ones said, "Come, let's make plans against Jeremiah, for the law will never be lost from the priest, or counsel from the wise, or an oracle from the prophet. Come, let's denounce him and pay no attention to all his words."

"Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says: Your heart is proud, and you have said: I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea. Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.

Speak [to him] and say: This is what the Lord God says: Look, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monsterlying in the middle of his Nile, who says: My Nile is my own; I made [it] for myself.

Now if you're ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don't worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire-- and who is the god who can rescue you from my power?"

the king exclaimed, "Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built by my vast power to be a royal residence and to display my majestic glory?"

For uttering bombastic, empty words, they seduce, by fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.

These people are discontented grumblers, walking according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.

A mouth was given to him to speak boasts and blasphemies. He was also given authority to act for 42 months.

He began to speak blasphemies against God: to blaspheme His name and His dwelling-- those who dwell in heaven.
