The wicked, etc
Let lying lips be quieted; they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.
Do not let the foot of the arrogant come near me or the hand of the wicked drive me away.
The sin of their mouths is the word of their lips, so let them be caught in their pride. They utter curses and lies.
If only my ways were committed to keeping Your statutes!
The arrogant have smeared me with lies, but I obey Your precepts with all my heart.
The arrogant have dug pits for me; they violate Your instruction.
Guarantee Your servant's well-being; do not let the arrogant oppress me.
The proud hide a trap with ropes for me; they spread a net along the path and set snares for me. Selah
You are still acting arrogantly against My people by not letting them go.
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods, because He [did wonders] at the time the Egyptians acted arrogantly against Israel."
But when the Lord finishes all His work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, [He will say,] "I will punish the king of Assyria for his arrogant acts and the proud look in his eyes."
For he said: I have done [this] by my own strength and wisdom, for I am clever. I abolished the borders of nations and plundered their treasures; like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.
You said to yourself: "I will ascend to the heavens; I will set up my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of the [gods'] assembly, in the remotest parts of the North.
Those who see you will stare at you; they will look closely at you: "Is this the man who caused the earth to tremble, who shook the kingdoms,
then Azariah son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the other arrogant men responded to Jeremiah, "You are speaking a lie! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, 'You must not go to Egypt to live there for a while!'
His trouble comes back on his own head, and his violence falls on the top of his head.
The nations have fallen into the pit they made; their foot is caught in the net they have concealed.
The LORD has revealed Himself; He has executed justice, striking down the wicked by the work of their hands. Higgaion. Selah
A wicked man's iniquities entrap him; he is entangled in the ropes of his own sin.
