[ For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah.] As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God.

[For the choir director: according to "The Lilies." A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song.] My heart is moved by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.

David and the officers of the army also set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy accompanied by lyres, harps, and cymbals. This is the list of the men who performed their service:

From Jeduthun: Jeduthun's sons: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah-- six-- under the authority of their father Jeduthun, prophesying to the accompaniment of lyres, giving thanks and praise to the LORD.

All these sons of Heman, the king's seer, were [given] by the promises of God to exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

[For the choir director: with stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song.] God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel.

Yahweh my Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights! [For the choir director: on stringed instruments.]

For the LORD is righteous; He loves righteous deeds. The upright will see His face.

He will receive blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

You supported me because of my integrity and set me in Your presence forever.

It will be said to Me: Only in the LORD is righteousness and strength." All who are incensed against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.

In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. This is what He will be named: The LORD Is Our Righteousness.

But from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who for us became wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ; certain that God is appealing through us, we plead on Christ's behalf, "Be reconciled to God."

He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

They confronted me in the day of my distress, but the LORD was my support.

He brought me out to a wide-open place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.

and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place.

[For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.] I waited patiently for the LORD, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help.

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

The LORD guards the inexperienced; I was helpless, and He saved me.

LORD, I am indeed Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your female servant. You have loosened my bonds.

Then David said, "The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go, and may the LORD be with you."

Saul sent agents to David's house to watch for him and kill him in the morning. But his wife Michal warned David: "If you don't escape tonight, you will be dead tomorrow!"

So she lowered David from the window, and he fled and escaped.

Saul went along one side of the mountain and David and his men went along the other side. Even though David was hurrying to get away from Saul, Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them.

So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to engage the Philistines. Therefore, that place was named the Rock of Separation.

Indeed, He lured you from the jaws of distress to a spacious and unconfined place. Your table was spread with choice food.

For we don't want you to be unaware, brothers, of our affliction that took place in the province of Asia: we were completely overwhelmed-- beyond our strength-- so that we even despaired of life.

He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and He will deliver us; we have placed our hope in Him that He will deliver us again.

[For the choir director: according to "A Silent Dove Far Away." A Davidic Miktam. When the Philistines seized him in Gath.] Be gracious to me, God, for man tramples me; he fights and oppresses me all day long.

[For the choir director: "Do Not Destroy." A Davidic Miktam. When he fled before Saul into the cave.] Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for I take refuge in You. I will seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings until danger passes.

Be gracious to me, Lord, for I call to You all day long.

For You, Lord, are kind and ready to forgive, abundant in faithful love to all who call on You.

I know, LORD, that Your judgments are just and that You have afflicted me fairly.

May Your compassion come to me so that I may live, for Your instruction is my delight.

Do not bring Your servant into judgment, for no one alive is righteous in Your sight.

Then the LORD passed in front of him and proclaimed: Yahweh-- Yahweh is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth,

maintaining faithful love to a thousand [generations], forgiving wrongdoing, rebellion, and sin. But He will not leave [the guilty] unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers' wrongdoing on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.
