So they said to one another, "Let's appoint a leader and go back to Egypt."
none of the men who have seen My glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested Me these 10 times and did not obey Me,
Do not test the LORD your God as you tested [Him] at Massah.
Our forefathers were unwilling to obey him, but pushed him away, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the desert,
where your fathers tested Me, tried [ Me], and saw My works
for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with this generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways."
So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest."
For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
It has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to its own vomit, and, "a sow, after washing itself, wallows in the mud."
They spoke against God, saying, "Is God able to provide food in the wilderness?
Look! He struck the rock and water gushed out; torrents overflowed. But can He also provide bread or furnish meat for His people?"
While He was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader's house and said, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?"
But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, "Don't be afraid. Only believe."
