Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.
LORD, Your hand is lifted up [to take action], but they do not see it. They will see [Your] zeal for [Your] people, and they will be put to shame. The fire for Your adversaries will consume them!
Because of his sinful greed I was angry, so I struck him; I was angry and hid; but he went on turning back to the desires of his heart.
At the time of his distress, King Ahaz himself became more unfaithful to the LORD.
Those who have a godless heart harbor anger; even when God binds them, they do not cry for help.
LORD, don't Your eyes [look for] faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.
I have heard Ephraim moaning: You disciplined me, and I have been disciplined like an untrained calf. Restore me, and I will return, for you, LORD, are my God.
After I returned, I repented; After I was instructed, I struck my thigh [in grief]. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.
Isn't Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Whenever I speak against him, I certainly still think about him. Therefore, My inner being yearns for him; I will truly have compassion on him. [This is] the LORD's declaration.
Because of the indecency of your uncleanness-- since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness-- you will not be pure again until I have satisfied My wrath on you.
I will depart and return to My place until they recognize their guilt and seek My face; they will search for Me in their distress.
Israel's arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to the LORD their God, and for all this, they do not seek Him.
They turn, but not to what is above; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of the cursing of their tongue. They will be ridiculed for this in the land of Egypt.
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and who depend on horses! They trust in the number of chariots and in the great strength of charioteers. They do not look to the Holy One of Israel and they do not seek the LORD's help.
But from there, you will search for the LORD your God, and you will find [Him] when you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul.
For I know the plans I have for you"-- [this is] the LORD's declaration-- "plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
In those days and at that time-- [this is] the LORD's declaration-- the Israelites and Judeans will come together, weeping as they come, and will seek the LORD their God.
They will ask about Zion, [turning] their faces to this road. They will come and join themselves to the LORD in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or household idols.
Afterwards, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come with awe to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days.
