Today, I am the One who has made you a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land-- against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the population.
They will fight against you but never prevail over you, since I am with you to rescue you." [This is] the LORD's declaration.
'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I will repel the weapons of war in your hands, those you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans who are besieging you outside the wall, and I will bring them into the center of this city.
I will fight against you with an outstretched hand and a mighty arm, with anger, rage, and great wrath.
Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His?
"Woe to the one who argues with his Maker-- one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it: What are you making? Or does your work [say]: He has no hands?
Look at the nations and observe-- be utterly astounded! For something is taking place in your days that you will not believe when you hear about it.
Look! I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter, impetuous nation that marches across the earth's open spaces to seize territories not its own.
They are fierce and terrifying; their views of justice and sovereignty stem from themselves.
Their horses are swifter than leopards and more fierce than wolves of the night. Their horsemen charge ahead; their horsemen come from distant [lands]. They fly like an eagle, swooping to devour.
All of them come to do violence; their faces are set in determination. They gather prisoners like sand.
They mock kings, and rulers are a joke to them. They laugh at every fortress and build siege ramps to capture it.
