Wherefore hast thou
If You are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now. If You are pleased with me, don't let me see my misery [any more]."
Then Moses cried out to the LORD, "What should I do with these people? In a little while they will stone me!"
But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes by myself?
Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man who incites dispute and conflict in all the land. I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.
Why has my pain become unending, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You truly have become like a mirage to me-- water that is not reliable.
You deceived me, LORD, and I was deceived. You seized me and prevailed. I am a laughingstock all the time; everyone ridicules me.
For whenever I speak, I cry out-- I proclaim: Violence and destruction! because the word of the LORD has become for me constant disgrace and derision.
If I say: I won't mention Him or speak any longer in His name, His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
Cursed be the day on which I was born. The day my mother bore me-- let it never be blessed.
Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, saying, "A male child is born to you," bringing him great joy.
Let that man be like the cities the LORD overthrew without compassion. Let him hear an outcry in the morning and a war cry at noontime
because he didn't kill me in the womb so that my mother might have been my grave, her womb eternally pregnant.
Why did I come out of the womb to see [only] struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?
You have said: "It is useless to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His requirements and walking mournfully before the LORD of Hosts?
Not to mention other things, there is the daily pressure on me: my care for all the churches.
I will say to God: Do not declare me guilty! Let me know why You prosecute me.
LORD, if You considered sins, Lord, who could stand?
Do not bring Your servant into judgment, for no one alive is righteous in Your sight.
[Because of] the LORD's faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
Why should [any] living person complain, [any] man, because of the punishment for his sins?
Let us search out and examine our ways, and turn back to the LORD.
