because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like ordinary people?
So no one should boast in men, for all things are yours:
Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited;
Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.
But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't brag and lie in defiance of the truth.
Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.
Or do you think it's without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit He has caused to live in us yearns jealously?
Brothers, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!
So rid yourselves of all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.
"I wish before God," replied Paul, "that whether easily or with difficulty, not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am-- except for these chains."
I wish all of you spoke in other languages, but even more that you prophesied. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in languages, unless he interprets so that the church may be built up.
Some, to be sure, preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will.
These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause [me] trouble in my imprisonment.
What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice
