When they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, Jesus then sent two disciples,
While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives across from the temple complex, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately,
"Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to take place?"
Then the disciples came up and asked Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"
He answered them, "Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them.
Then He dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached Him and said, "Explain the parable of the weeds in the field to us."
Then the disciples came up and told Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard this statement?"
Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
One said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long until the end of these extraordinary things?"
Then I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river. He raised both his hands toward heaven and swore by Him who lives eternally that it would be for a time, times, and half [a time]. When the power of the holy people is shattered, all these things will be completed.
I heard but did not understand. So I asked, "My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?"
"Teacher," they asked Him, "so when will these things be? And what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?"
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord-- what about him?"
"If I want him to remain until I come," Jesus answered, "what is that to you? As for you, follow Me."
He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority.
About the times and the seasons: brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers, are not in the dark, so that this day would overtake you like a thief.
For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We're not of the night or of darkness.
So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
But since we are of the day, we must be sober and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation.
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near-- at the door!
But know this: If the homeowner had known what time the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.
the enemy who sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
Therefore just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out, separate the evil people from the righteous,
teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Otherwise, He would have had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
