His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter [in mind].

But they did not understand what He said to them.

Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother kept all these things in her heart.

saying, 'The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day'?"

And they remembered His words.

Therefore some of His disciples said to one another, "What is this He tells us: 'A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me'; and, 'because I am going to the Father'?"

Jesus knew they wanted to question Him, so He said to them, "Are you asking one another about what I said, 'A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me'?

But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, "Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to You!"

and after they flog Him, they will kill Him, and He will rise on the third day."

They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

He said to them, "How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken!

Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

Jesus answered, "Destroy this sanctuary, and I will raise it up in three days."

But He was speaking about the sanctuary of His body.

His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

He said this to signify what kind of death He was about to die.

Then the crowd replied to Him, "We have heard from the law that the Messiah will remain forever. So how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"

"Ah!" His disciples said. "Now You're speaking plainly and not using any figurative language.

Now we know that You know everything and don't need anyone to question You. By this we believe that You came from God."

Then also, some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers argued with him. Some said, "What is this pseudo-intellectual trying to say?" Others replied, "He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities"-- because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.
