they understood not
At that, the Jews argued among themselves, "How can this man give us His flesh to eat?"
Therefore, when many of His disciples heard this, they said, "This teaching is hard! Who can accept it?"
What is this remark He made: 'You will look for Me, and you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come'?"
They did not know He was speaking to them about the Father.
Why don't you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to My word.
They do not know or understand; they wander in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Our fathers in Egypt did not grasp [the significance of] Your wonderful works or remember Your many acts of faithful love; instead, they rebelled by the sea-- the Red Sea.
Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand everything.

But the natural man does not welcome what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to know it since it is evaluated spiritually.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One. We are in the true One-- that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
