Then the chief priests and the leaders of the Jews presented their case against Paul to him; and they appealed,
asking him to do them a favor against Paul, that he might summon him to Jerusalem. They were preparing an ambush along the road to kill him.
When he arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him and brought many serious charges that they were not able to prove,
They listened to him up to this word. Then they raised their voices, shouting, "Wipe this person off the earth-- it's a disgrace for him to live!"
but they kept shouting, "Crucify! Crucify Him!"
A third time he said to them, "Why? What has this man done wrong? I have found in Him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have Him whipped and [then] release Him."
But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And their voices won out.
