Has any man become engaged to a woman and not married her? Let him leave and return home. Otherwise he may die in battle and another man marry her.'
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.
"Haven't you read," He replied, "that He who created them in the beginning made them male and female,
and He also said: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate."
But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother [[ and be joined to his wife,]]
and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate."
I command the married-- not I, but the Lord-- a wife is not to leave her husband.
But if she does leave, she must remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband-- and a husband is not to leave his wife.
But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is willing to live with him, he must not leave her.
Also, if any woman has an unbelieving husband, and he is willing to live with her, she must not leave her husband.
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the Christian husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to peace.
In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
For no one ever hates his own flesh, but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be sensible, pure, good homemakers, and submissive to their husbands, so that God's message will not be slandered.
Let your fountain be blessed, and take pleasure in the wife of your youth.
Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting life, which has been given to you under the sun, all your fleeting days. For that is your portion in life and in your struggle under the sun.
And I say this, brothers: the time is limited, so from now on those who have wives should be as though they had none,
