And whoever doesn't take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.
Summoning the crowd along with His disciples, He said to them, "If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me and the gospel will save it.

What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?
"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-- yes, and even his own life-- he cannot be My disciple.
Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world."
I will certainly show him how much he must suffer for My name!"
strengthening the hearts of the disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith, and by telling them, "It is necessary to pass through many troubles on our way into the kingdom of God."
so that no one will be shaken by these persecutions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.
For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness; by His wounding you have been healed.
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God, after being put to death in the fleshly realm but made alive in the spiritual realm.
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same resolve-- because the One who suffered in the flesh has finished with sin--
Didn't the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into His glory?"
explaining and showing that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead, and saying: "This is the Messiah, Jesus, whom I am proclaiming to you."
For it was fitting, in bringing many sons to glory, that He, for whom and through whom all things exist, should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the times for you
Righteousness will go before Him to prepare the way for His steps.
For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.
For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.
Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.
And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.
Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus,
the one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.
This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers.
They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives in the face of death.
