Jesus, too, was tempted to take things into His own hands and His response reveals a lot about what is really at stake when we are tempted to act independently from God.

Jesus promises that he is coming back for you and me. He is coming back in all his glory, lovesick for those who have been brought into his fold by faith. You see, he’s coming back for you because he loves you. He longs for the day when you can be with him, face to face, held back by nothing.

Imagine a cruel parent, who always threatened his or her child with, “If you do that again, I’m going to disown you as my child! That kind of cruel threat undermines any kind of close relationship. Every loving parent wants his child to feel secure in his love. That assurance of steadfast love undergirds strong parent-child relationships. Even so, the loving heavenly Father wants all of His children to feel secure in His steadfast love. After all, before we even existed, He chose us in Christ and determined that we would be adopted into His family.

Passage: Matthew 28:16
Series: The Mission
The Great Commission has been and is the foundation for evangelism and cross-cultural missions work in Christian theology. Because Jesus gave final instructions for His followers to go to all nations and that He would be with them even until the very end of the age, Christians of all generations have embraced this command. Passage: John 15:1
Series: "I Am"
Jesus uses the image of a vine and its branches to describe life in Him. In this seventh "I am" statement, Jesus declares, "I am the true vine." Like branches that depend on a tree or vine, we only have true life when we are connected to Jesus. Only when we are attached to Him are we "tapped into" God. Jesus provides our sustenance for the daily challenges of living.
